The beginning and the voices
What i like for the beginning of the anime was that they made Yoh look very cool when he first
appeared and came into manta's school. In the comics, he wasnt that cool at first, it was only in the later part of the comics
then hiroyuki takei brought out the cool side of Yoh. Yoh's voice was extremely nice; i loved it really. It sounded girl,
but at the same time, a voice that really fits his character. Warm, gentle and calm. A sweet boy in fact. Hao's voice was
almost like Yoh's when i first heard it. I loved it too. Hao's voice, who is played by Takayama Minami, carried a mysterious
and sort of sexy prescence that differ from that of Yoh's. But somehow, it sounded really alike.

Encounter with the Great Spirits.
In the anime, Yoh had to go through a test by the Great Spirits before he was allowed to pass into the Patch
village(same for the other shamans). He fought hard and declared that he will not leave without his friends. The Great Spirits
then told him that he/she has seen through the depths of his soul and will let him pass. However, in the comics, it was not
stated that Yoh had to pass a test or that he had an encounter with the Great Spirits. He simply woke up in the following
book and there he was, in the patch village.

Manta as a shaman
Suspicions arise that Manta is actually a shaman both in the comics and in the anime. However, in the anime
itself, Manta was actually able to do two oversouls with Amidamaru's friend(he was supposed to be in the other world already),
mosuke. Manta must have some shamanic abilities to be able to carry out such a tiring task(oversouls drain energy). In the
comics, it has yet to be revealed whether manta is a shaman or not. He has not done anything that proves he is a shaman except
the fact he is able to see spirits.

Chou. Senjiryakettsu
The Chou. Senjiryakettsu, for those who are unaware, is the book of Hao's secret power left behind by
the ancestor, Asakura Hao 1000 years ago. In the anime, Yoh and his friends, Ren, horohoro, Ryu, chocolove, Faust all learnt
the Chou. Senjiryakttsu through Anna's power. However, in the comics, only Yoh and his team members(Ryu and Faust) learnt
the Chou Senjiryakettsu. They did not show how they learnt it except that Yoh became much stronger and had the new weapon
he combines with Amidamaru and Harusame. It is called the Spirit of Sword, the Asakura family treasure. It was later in the
comics that they revealed that Yoh learnt the Chou. Senjiryakettsu thing.

Anime scenes
Of course, in the anime, alot and I mean alot of scenes was not played from the comics. They had to cut it
off short and so far, the anime only showed up to about book 18(book 19 is the story of matamune) before they showed Hao taking
action and the final fight takes place at the Hoshi No Senchi(The sacred land of the stars) where the Great Spirits roams.
The comics I've read so far count up to book 28, however I know the story to up to book 30+(comics has not ended yet).

Yoh out from the shaman fight.
In the anime, they showed Ren's death(can i put it this way? he didnt really die in the anime afterall) by
Hao's followers. However, in the comics, Ren really did die and Yoh was well informed of it. He was very calm; like he knew
everything would take place right from the start. He asked Manta to invite Jeanne of the X-laws(She had the power to revive
the dead) to come over. However, her condition for that was that Yoh backs off from the shaman fight. She knew that Yoh was
Hao's half and she couldnt risk it having Yoh around anymore. Yoh knew very well that she would ask him to back off and he
did so willingly(Marco couldnt really believe that). Ren was then revived and his furyoku increased once more(he felt really
grateful to Yoh). Anna saw Yoh's oracle ball on the ground and she softly held it, telling herself that she was too late and
then she thought back the time when they first met(matamune's story).

|
Yoh's friend, Horohoro.
Next, in the anime, Horohoro met Yoh before they even fought in the second test of the shaman fight. They
became friends before realising that they were both shamans and they were to fight in the next round. However, in the comics,
horohoro never knew Yoh before the fight. They only became friends after it ended, Yoh defeating horohoro.

Yoh's relationship with Hao
Finally, it all comes down to this, the relationship between Yoh and Hao. I must admit, i was sort of stunned when
I saw how Yoh treated Hao in the anime and vice versa. They did not seem like brothers at all! Hao had never fought with
Yoh. Not when they first met, like in the anime, not when hao wanted to 'eat' a spirit but was stopped by yoh(Hao could have
just controlled Yoh easily with his power but Hao did not fight with him. He simply left). When Opacho asked him
why, he said that he did it to save Yoh for Yoh would have never allowed Hao to kill while he was around. Yoh did indeed attack
Hao before(only because he had to stop Hao and save the innocent) but Hao did not fight back(Yoh even apologised to Hao when
he refused to listen to him and not stop Hao). When Yoh was killed in book 26-28(he came back to life in bk 28), after
he was revived, he sensed that Anna was in danger. She was fighting Hao who didnt actually want to fight her(he wanted to
make her his wife) but he was about to 'eat' the flower team's souls when they died and Anna had to protect Tamao and friends
until they bring Yoh to her. Hao asked her why did she stay behind and added on if it was because she wanted to use her
secret powers(Anna's true powers are unknown, perhaps only Yoh knows but Hao suspects that she has immense powers). She did
not dare look into his eye but turned away. Soon after, when Anna was about to break down(Hao revealed his true powers and
did not allow a road for Anna to leave), Yoh appeared smiling, apologising to Anna that he was late(that part was so
touching!) Then that chapter ended. The next thing I knew, right from the start of the following chapter, I saw Yoh and Hao
drinking coffee together in a cafeteria! Hao was even dressed in casual home clothes! In the comics, Yoh and Hao were truely
like brothers(and for those unaware, Yoh and Hao had actually even took a hot spring bath together with Yoh's friends!).

Hyoi Gattai |
The fight of Yoh and Ren.
One thing to make clear about the fight between Ren and Yoh after they met first time was that in the anime,
Ren defeated Yoh. Yoh was enrolled into the hospital before battling with Ren a second time when the latter came after him.
However, in the comics, Yoh never lost to Ren. He merely kept losing his stand in the fight but defeated Ren soon after he
and Amidamaru joined forces and thoughts. Yoh was only admitted to the hospital once after the fight. Besides, Yoh and Ren
fought the moment they met each other; they did not arrange to meet at the cemetry or somewhere else because Yoh had to stop
Ren from killing a man. This is the difference between the anime and the comics for the fight of Ren and Yoh.

Yoh's Furyoku power.
Well, throughout the whole anime, they did not reveal exactly how much is Yoh's furyoku power. They only
revealed Hao's as 125 000 000(same as comics). In actual fact, Yoh's furyoku started off as only 270. After a few incidents,
including the part where he learnt the chou.Senjirakkettsu(might not be the correct spelling) and the one where he died(killed
by a character not shown in the anime to make Yoh stronger), Faust revived Yoh and his furyoku rose alot(still a far way from
Hao cos Hao's furyoku also seemed to increase after that).

Matamune, a character never played.
Some of the characters appeared in the anime but not the comics and vice versa. One of the characters I can
name as 'important' in the anime but did not appear in the comics is namely the Lily Five(A bunch of clowns actually). For
the comics instead, the character that I was really hoping would appear in the anime but did not was Matamune. I suppose the
director had no choice because if he did add matamune, the whole anime would have to go for a drastic change; they have
to reveal Yoh's past, Hao's past and Anna's past as in the comics(Matamune played an inportant part in each of their lives,
Hao would never had died 500 years ago or deem matamune as his only friend; Yoh would never be able to get together with
Anna and Anna would still be tormented by her powers or maybe even died, she would not be who she is today). And the story
in the anime cannot really end as it is now.
The fight
For the shaman fight, the shamans fought at different places in the anime. However, in the comics, the fight
only took place in the stadium where the stage was surrounded by a protective shield(so that audiences will not get involved).
Hao fought the X-laws in the fight and not the Hoshi No Senchi as shown in the anime. He managed to 'eat' up their souls in
the comics, unlike in the anime, where Lyseg sent their souls to heaven.

|
The truth of Yoh's identity.
In the anime, Asakura Mickey, Yoh's father, told Yoh that Hao was his twin brother after the fight with the
Flower team(so far, Yoh never exchanged blows with the flower team as they died). However, in the comics, Yoh knew Hao was
his twin after he learnt the Chou.Senjiryakettsu from Anna. He only revealed his relationship with Hao when his friends demanded
to know the truth; otherwise, not even us, the readers would know. Yoh shed tears during the fight between Hao and the X-laws
in the comics.

Hao and the Spirit of Fire... |
Hao as the Shaman King
Well, just to reveal this, so far as i have read(the comics), Hao never did try to snatch the Great spirits
by force. He became the shaman king by rules. Yoh and the rest backed out from the shaman fight for they knew that there was
no way they could defeat Hao yet. They had to take their chances when Hao was going to become the one with the Great Spirits(the
shaman king had to go through this 'sleeping' process to gain the power). However, to reach Hao, Yoh and friends must first
defeat the patch men who have become so much stronger than before and it is a really difficult task(I have read until the
part where Yoh and friends are fighting to pass through the 3rd or fourth patch door). Therefore, in turth, Hao has become
the shaman king and all that's left, is the gaining of the power of the Great spirits. Before Hao left with the Guardians
to the throne of the shaman king, he said to Yoh, " I'll be waiting for you, Yoh...."
