Okay, let's start off. This is according to the comics, the original work of Hiroyuki Takei, writer of Shaman King.
The anime(show) is somewhat different from the comics and much shorter too. Asakura Yoh, a 13 year old
boy born in Izumo Japan is the main character of Shaman King. He comes to Tokyo to search for a spirit to aid in him
in the upcoming Shaman fight, held once every 500 years where shamans from all over the world will gather. He meets a human(non-shaman),
Oyamada Manta who became his first human friend after a few incidents. Yoh is very attached to manta for all the humans he
met before shun him away, calling him the demon child for possessing powers of a shaman and coming from a shamanic family.
However, Manta accepted him well enough to become his best friend. Soon after, Yoh meets Amidamaru, a lost samurai spirit
who is waiting for his friend over a long period of time. Yoh planned to make Amidamaru his spirit but after hearing his story,
he decides to help him out instead. Amidamaru had been known as a deadly killer legend but Yoh does not feel so as on the
day he performed 'hyoi gattai'(the spirit enters the body of the shaman, emerging as one and the shaman is able
to use its powers) with Amidamaru to fight against a gangster, Bokutou No Ryu, he felt that Amidamaru's heart was warm
and filled with kindness. To that, he solves Amida's problem whose friend is mosuke and it was all just a misunderstanding
over a special sword with lots of sentimental memories called Harusame(Spring's rain). Yoh was prepared to let Amida go and
rest in peace(become a buddha) but Amida felt attached to Yoh and could not leave. Thus, he became Yoh's main spirit and joined
him in his quest to become the shaman King. Next, Yoh meets another shaman, Tao Ren. Ren is seen as very dangerous and bears
uncontrollable hatred for the world. He wants to become the shaman king to 'cleanse' the sins of the people. He challages
Yoh to a duel, claiming that he is the only shaman needed around. This is when the question rises in Manta's head. What is
the Shaman king? Ren uses his spirit, bason as a 'tool' so as to bring out the power of 100% hyoi gattai. However, he claims
that since Yoh treats Amida as a friend, they can never have the same thoughts as when you treat one as a tool, so their hyoi
gattai is never 100%. Ren is bet on killing Yoh and getting Amida as his spirit as well. He easily beats Yoh to the ground.
Yoh feels that he does not have the energy to fight anymore and even if he did, he might not be able to defeat Ren. He tells
Amida to run so that Ren will not have the chance to force him to become his spirit. However, Amida tells him that he is unable
to leave his owner behind for he is already attached to him. Yoh is touched and they once again emerge as one. This time,
to Ren's surprise, is 100% hyoi gattai for Yoh's thoughts have emerged as one with Amida's. Yoh defeats Ren finally but ends
up in the hospital. Then, the most horrible thing that Yoh did not expect to happen was that his fiancee actually
comes over to give him hell training to prepare him for the shaman fight!
